Maldives calls for immediate de-escalation amid rising Middle East hostilities

The Government of the Republic of Maldives has expressed profound concern over the recent escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, urging all parties to immediately de-escalate tensions and restore peace and stability.

In a statement issued on 28 February 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Maldives is closely monitoring developments and denounced attacks from all sides. The Government called for restraint and stressed the urgent need to halt further deterioration of the situation.

The statement emphasised that all parties must act in full respect of international law and their obligations under the United Nations Charter. It further underscored that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be fully respected at all times.

Reaffirming its longstanding commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes, the Maldives highlighted the importance of collective international efforts to safeguard regional and global peace and stability.

The Government concluded by reiterating its call for calm and constructive engagement to prevent further escalation in the region.
