President establishes special Cabinet committee to address impact of Middle East situation

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has established a special Cabinet committee to coordinate the Government’s response to the ongoing situation in the Middle East and to address potential challenges faced by Maldivian citizens.

In a post on X, the President’s Office Chief Spokesperson, Heena Waleed, stated that the committee was formed on Saturday afternoon to assess developments and implement necessary measures to resolve emerging issues affecting the public.

The committee is chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel. Its members are:

  • Minister of Defence, Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon
  • Minister of Finance, Moosa Zameer
  • Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed
  • Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen
  • Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan
  • Minister of Tourism and Environment, Thoriq Ibrahim
  • Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, Dr Ali Haidar
  • Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed

The spokesperson added that the relevant ministries will continue to share all pertinent information with the public as the situation evolves.
