President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has designated two islands as part of neighbouring inhabited islands under amendments made through Presidential Decrees.

Under the changes, Raa Un'gulu has been designated as part of Un’goofaaru, while Haa Alifu Kandaalifinolhu has been designated as part of Vashafaru.

The amendments were made pursuant to the authority granted to the President under Section 134(a) of the Decentralisation Act. The designation of Kandaalifinolhu follows a request submitted by the residents of Vashafaru.

With the changes formalised, Presidential Decree No. 2/2025 – which specifies the inhabited islands of the Maldives – has been amended, and the updated list has been republished in the Government Gazette.
