Work begins on Veymandoo land reclamation project

As pledged by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, work has officially begun on the land reclamation project in Thaa Veymandoo.
The President announced the commencement of the project in a post on X on Thursday.
Following his visit to the island, on 25 September, 2025, the President promised to deliver on the reclamation. During the visit, the Government awarded the project to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
The agreement was signed between Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib and MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudee, in the presence of President Dr Muizzu.
Under the contract, 25 hectares of land will be reclaimed, including dredging, 819 meters of revetment, and 220 meters of groynes. MTCC was awarded the project for MVR 113.19 million, with completion expected within 270 days.
In addition to reclamation, the Government plans to upgrade Veymandoo’s roads to modern standards and construct a causeway linking Veymandoo and Kin'bidhoo. Officials said the development will help ease land shortages, create space for industrial and community growth, and support long-term infrastructure expansion.
