President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has visited Sultan Park to review progress on the ongoing redevelopment project, which is being carried out under the supervision of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) in collaboration with the Road Development Corporation (RDC).
During the visit, the President was briefed on the status of construction works and the range of new facilities being introduced as part of the upgrade. The project, which began in August last year, includes improvements to walkways, children’s play areas, structural features such as treehouse elements, as well as upgrades to safety systems including CCTV.

The park is scheduled to reopen to the public in conjunction with Eid al-Fitr celebrations, with preparations underway for the “Eid Haveeru 1447” event organised by MNDF. The President inspected ongoing arrangements in the area, including stall setups and recreational features such as an overhead obstacle course and a shooting range.
The redevelopment is aimed at transforming Sultan Park into a more functional and accessible public space, incorporating modern facilities while enhancing its role as a recreational area for families and young people. Plans are also in place to introduce an e-gaming centre in the section previously used as Winter Park.
The President was accompanied during the visit by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed, Minister of Defence Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, Minister of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib, RDC Managing Director Ibrahim Nazeem, Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, and other senior officials involved in the project.
