Former Malé City Mayor, ‘Sarangu’ Adam Manik, has announced his endorsement of Major General (Retired) Moosa Ali Jaleel, who is contesting for the mayoral seat on a People’s National Congress (PNC) ticket in the forthcoming Local Council elections.

Adam Manik met with Moosa Ali Jaleel earlier today. Speaking to the press following the meeting, he stated that the Government-backed candidate possesses the capability to deliver meaningful development for Malé. He expressed confidence that the candidate has both the vision and the institutional support required to address the city’s pressing needs.

Highlighting concerns over stalled progress in Malé, Adam Manik noted that the city has experienced prolonged periods without sufficient development. He remarked that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had previously served as Mayor of Malé with a strong and clear agenda, and said he believes Moosa Ali Jaleel is well-positioned to implement a similar vision.

He further emphasised that a vote for Moosa Ali Jaleel would be a vote in the interest of Malé, adding that the current Administration holds the necessary capacity to carry out essential development projects in the capital.

Sarangu Adam Manik holds the distinction of being the first Mayor of Malé City and had also served as President of the Malé Municipality. Although he resigned from the mayoral post in 2011, he continued to serve as a member of the Malé City Council, completing his term.

He has previously been active in Maldivian politics, including involvement in the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) as well as former President Mohamed Waheed’s Gaumee Iththihaad Party.
