President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Government's commitment to eliminating tuberculosis, calling for collective action to protect public health as the world marks World TB Day.

In a post shared on X, the President acknowledged that tuberculosis continues to affect millions of people globally, despite being both preventable and curable. He emphasised the critical role of strong healthcare systems, early detection, and community participation in bringing an end to the disease.

President Dr Muizzu highlighted that the Maldives remains a low TB burden country, a status he said the nation takes pride in. He said the Government is continuing to strengthen early detection efforts, improve access to rapid diagnostics and treatment, and ensure that vulnerable populations receive the care they need.

The President urged health workers and communities across the Maldives to work collectively towards a future free from tuberculosis, reaffirming the Government's dedication to safeguarding public health at every level.

First Lady Sajidha Mohamed also shared a post on X marking the day. She stressed that every case of tuberculosis represents a person whose daily life, family, and plans are put on hold.

While acknowledging that TB is preventable and curable, the First Lady drew attention to the role that stigma and lack of awareness play in preventing people from seeking timely care. She called on communities to go beyond treatment and focus on building supportive environments, spreading knowledge, and approaching those affected with compassion rather than judgment.

World TB Day is observed annually on 24 March to raise awareness about the global impact of tuberculosis.
