BML expands ATM network with 90 machines, including 70 USD ATMs

Bank of Maldives (BML) has expanded its nationwide ATM network with the introduction of 90 new machines, including 70 US dollar ATMs to improve access to foreign currency services.

The new ATMs were inaugurated by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at a ceremony attended by BML Chairperson Ahmed Ali Habeeb, CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef and senior officials.

The rollout includes 70 USD ATMs and 20 Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR) ATMs, with USD ATMs distributed across all atolls, including 5 in Haa Alifu, 5 in Haa Dhaalu, 4 in Shaviyani, 4 in Noonu, 6 in Raa, 5 in Baa, 3 in Lhaviyani, 10 in Kaafu, 3 in Alifu Alifu, 6 in Alifu Dhaalu, 3 in Vaavu, 1 in Faafu, 3 in Meemu, 1 in Dhaalu, 4 in Thaa, 3 in Laamu, 3 in Gaafu Alifu, 3 in Gaafu Dhaalu, 1 in Gnaviyani and 5 in Seenu atolls.

With this expansion, the total number of ATMs across the Maldives has increased to over 330, forming part of BML’s "Dhivehinge Bank Mulhi Raajje Ah" initiative to provide banking services across all inhabited islands.

Speaking at the ceremony, CEO Mohamed Shareef said the initiative reflects the bank’s commitment to improving accessibility while maintaining close engagement with customers, noting that staff of the newly opened branches will actively engage with communities, visit homes and businesses, and promote financial literacy and awareness on banking services and fraud prevention.

He also noted that the rollout marks one of the largest synchronised deployments of cash recycling ATMs, enabling both deposit and withdrawal services, describing it as a significant milestone in the bank’s service expansion.

According to BML statistics, MVR 17.1 billion was deposited through the ATM network in 2025, with over 8.4 million transactions recorded, highlighting the growing use of ATM services, while the expansion is expected to further enhance financial accessibility and support economic activity nationwide.
