The Government has opened applications under a dedicated category for persons with disabilities under the 'Family Housing' programme implemented as part of the 'Housing for All' policy, providing priority access to housing for individuals with special needs.

The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure said applications for flats under the “Persons with Disabilities” category are open from April 1 until 11:59 p.m. on April 30, with 100 housing units allocated under the scheme.

The category was introduced following revisions to the housing policy, which previously required applicants to indicate disability under a general classification, with changes made in February to establish a separate category and prioritise persons with disabilities in housing allocation.

According to the eligibility criteria, applicants must be persons with disabilities who have been residing in the Greater Malé Region for at least five years, or those required to relocate to the region to access medical treatment unavailable in their home island or atoll, including individuals who have been receiving treatment in the region for at least one year.

The ministry stated that application guidelines and required documentation have been published in the Government Gazette, with submissions to be made through the Boahiyaavahikan portal.
