Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded the contract to construct a new three-storey building at Meemu Atoll Education Centre in Muli, as part of efforts to strengthen education infrastructure in the atoll.

The project, valued at approximately MVR 18.8 million, will include the development of 10 classrooms, a library, an audio-visual (AV) room and a dedicated health room, aimed at enhancing both learning facilities and student welfare.

The expansion comes amid increasing student enrolment and space constraints at the school, which currently accommodates around 240 students from Muli and neighbouring islands, with the island serving as the capital of Meemu Atoll and a key education hub for the region.

Officials said the new building is expected to address overcrowding and provide a more conducive learning environment, supporting the delivery of quality education.

The agreement for the project was signed at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Education, with State Minister for Education Dr Abdul Latheef Mohamed signing on behalf of the government and MTCC Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Jamsheed representing the contractor.

The project forms part of broader Government efforts to improve access to modern education facilities across the atolls and ensure equitable development of school infrastructure nationwide.
