Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been contracted to construct a student accommodation facility in Haa Alifu Dhidhdhoo, under an agreement signed with the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development.

The agreement was signed by Permanent Secretary Aishath Hikma on behalf of the ministry and MTCC Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Jamsheed on behalf of the company. Senior officials from both institutions attended the signing ceremony, including Minister of Higher Education Dr Ali Haider Ahmed.

The project forms part of the Government’s policy to expand access to higher education and technical training opportunities across the country, particularly in outer atolls. The initiative aims to enable students to pursue studies within their own regions by improving supporting infrastructure.

The facility to be developed in Dhidhdhoo will include 32 rooms equipped with attached toilets, along with shared amenities such as a kitchen, dining area, laundry facilities, gym and recreational spaces, designed to support student living and learning needs.

The accommodation will support the operations of Dhidhdhoo Junior College, which offers training in fields including hospitality, automotive, welding and engineering. The ministry stated that such projects are intended to strengthen regional education systems and better prepare Maldivian youth for the domestic job market, while similar facilities and campuses continue to be developed nationwide.
