Tha Veymandoo ---

Thaa Veymandoo land reclamation project has been completed within 23 days, with 27 hectares of land reclaimed under the project.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced the completion in a post on X, stating that work, which began on March 12, was completed on April 4.

The project involved the reclamation of approximately 882,693 cubic metres of sand using the trailing suction hopper dredger Filippo Brunelleschi, which has a capacity of 11,300 cubic metres. In addition to reclamation, the project includes 819 metres of revetment and 220 metres of groynes, and was awarded to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for MVR 113.19 million with an initial completion period of 270 days.

The project follows a pledge made by the President during his visit to Veymandoo on September 24, 2025, highlighting the importance of land expansion for the development of the atoll capital. With a population of around 1,270, the expansion is expected to support housing and economic growth, alongside planned road development and a causeway linking the island with Kinbidhoo.
