The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has strengthened its project portfolio through the implementation of Government projects, creating new opportunities to expand into international markets, Managing Director DCP (Retired) Ahmed Saudee has said.
Speaking on MMTV’s Niulhemundhaa Khabaru programme, Saudee said the execution of a large number of Government projects has significantly enhanced the company’s capacity and experience. He noted that this has led to increasing interest from international companies seeking to partner with MTCC on overseas ventures.
Saudee explained that MTCC’s status as a publicly listed company, combined with its track record in delivering major infrastructure and development projects, has made it an attractive partner for foreign firms. He added that several international companies have already approached MTCC to explore potential collaborations.
He further stated that the company’s strengthened portfolio provides a clear advantage when competing for international bids, improving its chances of securing large-scale projects abroad.
Discussions are currently ongoing with foreign partners interested in undertaking such projects. Among the proposals received is an airport development project in Mauritius, which is being explored in collaboration with an international partner.
Saudee said expanding into international markets remains a key objective for MTCC. However, he noted that much of the company’s machinery and resources are presently committed to ongoing development projects within the Maldives.
As an example, he pointed out that requests from overseas to lease MTCC’s dredging equipment could not be accommodated, as the machinery continues to be utilised for land reclamation and other domestic works.
He also highlighted that undertaking a wide range of projects has contributed to enhancing the skills of Maldivian employees, while helping build local expertise required to carry out infrastructure projects both on land and at sea.
