Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has disbursed MVR 88.8 million to fishermen during the first quarter of the year, alongside the purchase of over 5,000 tonnes of fish.

According to MIFCO, a total of 5,186 tonnes of fish were purchased between January and March, including 2,454 tonnes in January, 1,108 tonnes in February and 1,625 tonnes in March. The highest payments were recorded in January at MVR 40.3 million, followed by MVR 19 million in February and MVR 29.3 million in March.

The company stated that the introduction of payments within 48 hours, which began on December 11, 2024, has enabled more consistent and timely disbursement of funds.
