The Elections Commission of Maldives has published the final list of eligible voters for the upcoming North Hithadhoo by-election scheduled for June 6.

According to the commission, a total of 4,121 people are eligible to vote in the by-election for the North Hithadhoo constituency seat in parliament. Voting will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The commission stated that a total of seven ballot boxes will be placed for the election, including five ballot boxes in Addu City and two ballot boxes in Malé for voters residing in the capital.

Ballot boxes in Malé will be placed at the south building of Dharumavantha School, while polling arrangements in Addu City will be conducted at Hithadhoo School. The final voter list has also been published in the Government Gazette and on the commission’s website.

The by-election is being contested by candidates representing the country’s two main political parties. Former councillor Ahmed Saeed is contesting on behalf of the People's National Congress (PNC) and received candidate number one, while former Addu City Mayor Abdulla Sodiq is contesting on behalf of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) under candidate number two.

The North Hithadhoo parliamentary seat became vacant following a Supreme Court ruling concerning former Member of Parliament Mohamed Sinan, who had been elected to the constituency in 2024.
