Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has departed for Kunming, Yunnan Province, on an official visit to attend the ‘Third China-Indian Ocean Region Forum on Blue Economy Development Cooperation.’

The forum, co-hosted by the Maldives, will run from December 15-17, 2024, and is organised by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA).

The event, themed ‘Future of the Blue Indian Ocean: Development Practices of the Global South,’ brings together representatives from various nations to enhance collaboration on blue economy development.

The forum will focus on critical areas such as climate change, sustainable development, and strengthening regional partnerships to tackle challenges in the Indian Ocean region. Its agenda features thematic discussions, subforums, and roundtable sessions, offering a platform for collaboration and innovative solutions in advancing the blue economy.

During the opening ceremony, the Vice President is expected to deliver a keynote address, emphasising the Maldives' commitment to sustainable development and regional cooperation.

This marks his continued engagement with the forum, following his participation in the second edition of the event in December 2023.
