President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured the Dhan’gethi Island Council that the Government will work towards addressing the island’s pressing issues.

The President met with the Dhan’gethi Island Council and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) at the Council Secretariat on December 14, 2024, where a range of development concerns were discussed.

During the meeting at the Dhan’gethi Island Council Secretariat, members raised concerns about the harbour extension project and requested land reclamation for youth housing. They emphasised the need for a multi-purpose hall at the island school and discussed ways to generate additional income for the island.

The Council also highlighted the necessity of a USD ATM for easier access to financial services and expressed concerns over space limitations at the Secretariat.

In response, the President assured the Council that the Government would consider their concerns and work to resolve the challenges they face. He announced plans for a cultural centre on Dhan’gethi Island to support community development and also acknowledged the need for a USD ATM and assured the Council that practical solutions would be explored to address this issue.

Cabinet Ministers accompanying the President provided updates on ongoing and planned development projects aimed at improving Dhan’gethi’s infrastructure.
