President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his commitment to guiding the Maldives through both deliberate and circumstantial challenges, emphasising the Government's determination to progress with the grace of Allah.
The President made these remarks during a visit to Dhan’gethi in South Ari Atoll, addressing the nation following a significant fire in Malé City.
The fire, which occurred on December 12, 2024, caused extensive damage to the buildings housing the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development, the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, and the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy.
The President shared his deep personal anguish over the incident, noting that these institutions were places where he had served at various points in his career. Witnessing the devastation, he said, was particularly heartbreaking as these buildings held years of dedicated service by countless staff members.
Despite the emotional toll, President Dr Muizzu responded to the crisis with steadfast resolve. Highlighting the swift response, he commended the collaborative efforts that began immediately after the fire. Teams worked tirelessly through the night to ensure continuity of essential services.
In a remarkable announcement, the President stated that the affected Ministries would resume operations by 8 a.m. on Sunday, underscoring the nation's resilience and determination to move forward without delay.
Acknowledging the collective effort, the President expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed to the recovery and transition process. He emphasised that challenges, no matter how daunting, will not deter his commitment to serving the nation. Instead, such trials strengthen his resolve to lead with determination and faith.
