The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Small Branches Workshop 2026 has commenced in the Maldives, jointly hosted by the CPA and the People’s Majlis.

The workshop is being held from 27 to 29 April, with this being the first time the event has taken place in the Maldives.

Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef graced the opening ceremony, which was also attended by Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla, Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim, and parliamentarians from across Commonwealth countries.

CPA Small Branches refer to jurisdictions with populations of up to one million.

Held annually, the workshop focuses on a key thematic area. This year’s edition is titled Capacity Building Workshop: Strong and Independent Parliaments in Small Jurisdictions.

Through its programmes, the CPA aims to promote good governance and parliamentary democracy across the Commonwealth.
