Government Chief Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef has revealed that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s five foreign trips undertaken during 2025 cost a total of approximately MVR 5.5 million.
Speaking during the Presser With the Spox, the spokesperson said disclosure of travel expenses is sometimes delayed as expenditure details are compiled and calculated only after the completion of official visits. He noted that the President is often accompanied by officials from various ministries and State institutions, whose expenses are separately covered by their respective institutions, resulting in additional time needed to gather complete information.
According to figures shared during the briefing, the President’s visit to Malaysia in April 2025 cost MVR 245,170, while his visit to Singapore during the same year cost MVR 2.27 million.
The spokesperson further stated that the President’s visit to the United Kingdom in July 2025 cost MVR 1.57 million, while his visit to Qatar in September 2025 amounted to MVR 570,971. A subsequent visit to the United Kingdom in November 2025 cost MVR 870,411.
He added that efforts are continuing to compile details of other presidential visits undertaken during the period, assuring that the information would be made public once the collection process is completed.
The spokesperson also noted that the right to information act was introduced under a PNC-led Administration and stated that the current Government remains committed to responding to information requests submitted with legitimate intent.
