The Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology is set to launch ID card printing services in Dh. Kudahuvadhoo, making it the second island outside of Malé to offer this essential service.

Previously, ID cards were primarily printed at the Department of National Registration (DNR) office in Malé, but this expansion reflects a nationwide effort to increase accessibility.

The launch, scheduled for Tuesday with the support of the Kudahuvadhoo Atoll Council, will be attended by the Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihsan.

This new service is part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to make ID card issuance available across all inhabited atolls. Although the expansion requires significant resources, the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology is working to install the necessary equipment wherever feasible.

Since its establishment in 1984, the DNR has expanded its reach, adding 174 collection centers nationwide and, more recently, online ID applications. In 2021, the DNR launched an online portal to facilitate applications, enabling citizens to receive their ID cards at their local council offices.
