Visit Maldives has joined the Worldchefs Congress & Expo 2026 in Newport as part of efforts to promote the Maldives’ culinary tourism sector and strengthen destination visibility in international markets.
The international culinary event, being held from May 16 to 19 at the International Convention Centre Wales, brings together chefs, hospitality professionals, tourism industry representatives and culinary organisations from across the world. The programme includes industry discussions, competitions and networking sessions focused on developments in global tourism and gastronomy.
Visit Maldives stated that the Maldives is using the platform to promote both traditional Maldivian cuisine and luxury dining experiences available across resorts and tourism establishments in the country. Live demonstrations of local heritage dishes are also being conducted at the Maldives stand during the event.
The corporation stated meetings are being held with travel trade representatives, hospitality stakeholders, culinary associations and international media to strengthen partnerships and promote the Maldives within key tourism markets. Promotional materials related to Maldivian cuisine, tourism experiences and destination branding are also being distributed during the expo.
Visit Maldives further stated that participation in the event forms part of efforts to diversify the Maldives’ tourism industry by promoting experiential tourism segments, including gastronomy tourism. The corporation noted that information and industry insights gathered during the event would contribute to future destination marketing strategies and tourism promotion initiatives.
