Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has urged the public to use roads responsibly and prioritise safety for all road users.
In a post shared on X, the Vice President stated that safe road use is an individual responsibility and one of the most important ways to ensure the safety and security of others.
The Vice President’s message came as the Maldives marked the Global Road Safety Week, observed annually to raise awareness about road safety and encourage actions to reduce traffic-related deaths and injuries worldwide.
The campaign, coordinated by the World Health Organization (WHO), is observed from May 12 to 18 this year under the theme focused on making walking and cycling safer and improving road safety for all users. As part of the week’s activities, road safety awareness sessions were also held in schools across Addu City. The sessions took place on May 17 at Fedu School, Irshadiya School and Maradu School.
During the sessions, students were educated on the importance of following road rules and traffic regulations, including walking on the correct side of the road and paying attention to traffic and safety signs.
