First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has expressed her appreciation to voluntary blood donors, describing them as individuals whose selfless contributions help save lives and strengthen the spirit of compassion within society.

She made the remarks during the official reception held at the Islamic Centre on Monday evening to commemorate World Blood Donor Day.

In her address, the First Lady highlighted the importance of recognising and encouraging voluntary blood donation. She noted that the annual observance serves not only to honour blood donors, but also to promote the values of generosity, sacrifice and mutual care for the wellbeing of others.

In addition, the First Lady commended those who have remained committed to donating blood over the years and encouraged individuals who may feel hesitant about the process to find the confidence to participate in this humanitarian service. She said donating blood offers a meaningful opportunity to help others and experience the fulfilment that comes from saving lives.

The First Lady also called on all eligible individuals to donate blood, stating that the act transcends wealth or financial means and provides an avenue to serve humanity while earning goodwill and blessings.

During the ceremony, commemorative shields and certificates were presented to long-serving blood donors and 18-year-olds making their first blood donations. Organisations that hosted the highest number of blood donation camps, as well as individuals who made the greatest number of donations through such initiatives, were also recognised.

Gold Awards were presented to individuals who have consistently donated blood over an extended period, while Lifetime Contribution Awards were conferred on those whose sustained commitment to voluntary blood donation has resulted in the highest number of donations over the years.

Observed annually on 14 June, World Blood Donor Day recognises the selfless contributions of voluntary blood donors and raises awareness about the importance of maintaining safe and adequate blood supplies.
