The Non-Resident Ambassador of Portugal to the Maldives, João Manuel Mendes Ribeiro de Almeida, has presented his credentials to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Following the credential ceremony, the President and the Ambassador discussed cooperation in climate change, tourism and multilateral engagement. Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Portugal were established on 9 February 1995, while the Ambassador was accorded a traditional Haiykolhu procession accompanied by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Drum and Trumpet Band before presenting his credentials.
