Maldives has joined the 78th session of the World Health Assembly, currently underway in Geneva, Switzerland. The high-level global health forum, organised by the World Health Organization (WHO), brings together representatives from 194 member states to address pressing health challenges.

Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim is leading the Maldivian delegation, accompanied by Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva Dr Salma Rasheed and senior officials from the Maldives Permanent Mission.

Minister Nazim is scheduled to deliver an address on behalf of the Maldives under the theme ‘One World for Health’, highlighting the nation’s perspectives on global health collaboration and resilience.

Key issues on the agenda include universal health coverage, maternal and child health, climate change and health, and antimicrobial resistance. The Assembly is also expected to adopt the landmark Pandemic Agreement to strengthen international preparedness and response to health emergencies.

Maldives will participate in meetings with international partners and donor organisations to explore opportunities for enhanced cooperation in strengthening its health sector.
