A groundbreaking ceremony has been held to commence the construction of a new fitness and recreation centre in Noonu Landhoo, a key initiative under the Government’s nationwide sports development agenda.
The ceremony was officiated by the Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, Abdulla Rafiu, who was joined by Noonu Manadhoo MP Husnee Mubarak. The event was held as part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing four-day tour of inhabited islands across the atolls.
The project, entrusted to Fenaka Corporation, reflects the Administration's commitment to establishing fitness and recreation centres on every inhabited island in the Maldives. The President has confirmed that these centres, along with outdoor gyms, will be developed within the next two years.
Highlighting the inclusive nature of the initiative, President Dr Muizzu noted that the facilities will include designated spaces for sports activities and structured exercise classes tailored specifically for women.
To accelerate the national sports infrastructure programme, the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation has recently awarded 77 sports development projects, all allocated to state-owned companies for timely and efficient execution.
