President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has instructed relevant ministries to provide Government student loans to all 806 students deemed eligible under the current higher education loan scheme.

The announcement was made via the President’s official X account on Tuesday, where he stated that the ministries have been directed to facilitate loans for all eligible applicants, exceeding the initial allocation of 500 loan slots.

Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development published the preliminary list of selected applicants. Out of 1,338 submissions, 806 were found to meet the eligibility criteria.

The Government’s loan scheme, which supports students pursuing higher education both in the Maldives and overseas, was made Shariah-compliant in March this year to expand access and ensure greater inclusivity.
