President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that road development works in Noonu Miladhoo are scheduled to begin in August 2025.
He made the announcement while speaking to residents of Miladhoo, following a meeting with the Island Council and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC). Council members highlighted road development as a critical infrastructure need, citing the poor condition of existing roads and the impact on daily life and access to essential services.
The President stated that the road development project has been assigned to the Road Development Corporation (RDC).
Also scheduled to begin in August is the island’s coastal protection project, which will be carried out by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). President Dr Muizzu noted that while discussions are ongoing with the Island Council to finalise the project’s scope, it has already been agreed that the work will be designed to allow for future land reclamation and ensure convenient beach access.
Providing updates on other development efforts, the President stated that both the water supply project and the construction of a new health centre in Miladhoo are nearing completion. To address staffing shortages, additional nurses will be deployed to support the island’s 16-hour health facility.
Regarding housing, the President reaffirmed that the 50-unit housing project will proceed in accordance with the community’s preference, whether through individual homes built on private plots or as grouped units within a designated area.
The President also reassured residents, during his remarks, that all development pledges made to the people of Miladhoo will be fulfilled.
