Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed optimism about taking India-Maldives relations to new heights.

PM Modi arrived in the Maldives today on a state visit at the invitation of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The President warmly welcomed Prime Minister Modi, who was accompanied by India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar, at Velana International Airport ahead of an official welcome ceremony scheduled for later in the day.

The visit is especially significant as it coincides with the Maldives’ 60th Independence Day and the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

In a tweet posted in Dhivehi shortly after his arrival, Prime Minister Modi expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and reaffirmed his confidence in deepening cooperation between the neighbouring countries.

During PM Modi’s visit to the Maldives, the two leaders are expected to engage in high-level talks aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors. They will also oversee the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding and agreements, followed by joint press statements highlighting the key outcomes.
