Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and President Dr Mohamed Muizzu jointly inaugurated the Dhoshimeyna Building, the new headquarters of the Maldivian Ministry of Defence.
The 10-storey facility, constructed with assistance from the Government of India, will serve as the primary operational base for the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF). The project began in February 2014 and reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen national security infrastructure and bilateral defence cooperation.
Following the inauguration, both leaders toured the building, viewed a scale model, and received briefings on its capabilities and strategic role.
The Dhoshimeyna Building will support MNDF Coast Guard operations, including protecting maritime territory, safeguarding the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), conducting patrols, and responding to emergencies at sea. It will also house key units such as the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) and the Special Boat Squadron (SBS), which contribute to national and regional maritime security.
