Maldives and Sri Lanka reaffirm commitment to strengthening bilateral ties

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayaka have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations during official talks held on Monday in Colombo.

The discussions took place at the Presidential Secretariat as part of President Dr Muizzu’s ongoing State Visit to Sri Lanka.

During the meeting, both leaders agreed to enhance cooperation across a wide range of areas, including economic collaboration, youth empowerment, education, culture and heritage, healthcare and welfare, security, and fisheries.

They also highlighted the long-standing and close relationship between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, noting that the two countries marked 60 years of formal diplomatic relations in July 2025. The Presidents expressed appreciation for the strong people-to-people ties and the contributions made by citizens of both countries to each other’s development.

Cabinet Ministers and senior Government officials from both the Maldives and Sri Lanka were present at the talks.
