Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Jagath Wickramaratne, paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during the President’s ongoing state visit to Sri Lanka, as part of a series of high-level engagements.
During the meeting, both sides reflected on the longstanding relationship between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, noting the strength of ties at both institutional and public levels. The discussions focused on ways to further deepen cooperation between the two countries.
Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening collaboration between the legislative bodies of both nations. This includes enhancing engagement through existing parliamentary friendship groups, as well as expanding opportunities for knowledge-sharing and capacity development among lawmakers.
Both sides also discussed facilitating greater interaction between parliamentary representatives in the future, with a view to building closer institutional linkages and supporting broader bilateral engagement.
The Maldives and Sri Lanka share a long history of diplomatic relations, having marked 60 years of formal ties in July last year, with continued efforts underway to further strengthen cooperation across sectors.
