The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has issued a yellow alert from Haa Alif Atoll to Alif Dhaal Atoll amid heavy rainfall in Male' City.

Met said thunderstorms and torrential rains are expected until 3:00 p.m today.

From Wednesday, the Met Office expects a shift to dry weather nationwide, lasting for five days. However, with the Hulhangu (southwest) monsoon drawing to a close, there is a heightened possibility of fog formation in some areas.

Weather activity in the region is being influenced by a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, which is likely to move toward Tamil Nadu, India, within two days. Additionally, a trough forming in the south is expected to move westward, gradually shifting away from the Maldives later in the week.

Stronger winds are anticipated from Wednesday onward, with speeds of 13–23 miles per hour in the northern atolls and 17–27 miles per hour in the central atolls. Gusts could reach up to 40–55 miles per hour, prompting concerns about rough to very rough sea conditions across the central and southern atolls.

High tides are also forecast to impact islands in the central and southern regions, increasing risks to coastal areas. The Met Office has advised seafarers to exercise caution and follow the latest weather updates and safety instructions.
