Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam has reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to further strengthening its relationship with the Commonwealth of Nations.

The Minister made the remarks during a meeting with Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey at the Commonwealth Headquarters in London.

Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual priority and strengthening engagement between the Maldives and the Commonwealth.

During the meeting, Minister Iruthisham assured that the Maldives would continue to work closely with the Commonwealth and expand cooperation across key sectors.

Botchwey, meanwhile, recognised the Maldives’ leadership and active role within the Commonwealth, particularly in advocating for the interests and rights of small island states.

The Commonwealth is an intergovernmental organisation comprising 56 member countries. The Maldives rejoined the Commonwealth in 2020 after previously withdrawing from the organisation in 2016.
