RTL ferry services are set to begin in Meemu Atoll by the end of this month in the next phase of the Government's effort to establish a nationwide high-speed ferry network linking communities across the Maldives.

Operated by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) service has already been introduced in 15 atolls and is designed to provide a reliable and affordable transport option for people travelling between islands. The network has become increasingly important for residents accessing healthcare, public services and other essential needs.

Preparations for the launch in Meemu Atoll are currently underway, with MTCC conducting public awareness programmes across the atoll. The company has been visiting islands and holding information sessions to familiarise residents with ferry schedules, routes and services ahead of the commencement of operations.

The rollout forms part of plans to extend RTL services to every atoll in the country by the end of the year. Following the launch in Meemu Atoll, the remaining areas scheduled to be connected under the network include Zone 3 of Kaafu Atoll, Alifu Alifu Atoll, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll and Vaavu Atoll.

The RTL project is one of the largest domestic transport initiatives undertaken in the Maldives, with the aim of strengthening inter-island connectivity and providing a sustainable public transport system across the country.
