The Maldives Police Service has introduced a new organisational structure aimed at strengthening administrative management, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing the quality of police services.

Police said the changes came into effect on Tuesday and are intended to deliver a more efficient and responsive policing system. According to the service, work is currently underway to appoint officers to positions under the new structure, implement operational changes and revise relevant policies.

Under the restructured framework, key functions including policing services, investigations, intelligence, forensics, operational support, technology, training and corporate services have been organised under specialised commands.

The new structure includes the Office of the Commissioner, National College of Policing and Law Enforcement, Professional Standards, National Intelligence Service, Internal Security and Operational Support, Forensic Services, Central Investigations, Malé Police, Hulhumalé Police, Northern Police, Southern Police, Service Development, Service Support, and Digital Data and Technology.

Police said the restructuring is designed to strengthen coordination between different sectors of the service while creating a policing system that is closer to the public.

The changes also aim to expand the role of frontline officers in service delivery, improve resource utilisation and enhance the service’s ability to respond to the country's evolving security and safety needs.
