North Hithadhoo result strengthens PNC's focus on 2028: Speaker Abdul Raheem

People's National Congress (PNC) Chairman and Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla has said the party remains firmly focused on its goals for 2028 alongside President Dr Mohamed Muizzu following the North Hithadhoo constituency by-election.
In a post on X after provisional results of the by-election were announced, Speaker Abdul Raheem thanked voters who supported PNC candidate Ahmed Saeed and praised both the candidate and campaign team for their efforts throughout the campaign. He described the result as encouraging and noted that the PNC candidate had secured the majority of votes from ballot boxes placed in Hithadhoo.
According to provisional results released by the Elections Commission, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate Abdulla Sodhiq received 1,375 votes, representing 51.15 per cent of ballots cast, while Ahmed Saeed secured 1,313 votes, or 48.85 per cent.
The Speaker noted that Saeed led by 34 votes in ballot boxes located in Hithadhoo, while the overall result was influenced by the outcome of a ballot box in Malé. He thanked residents of the constituency who had voted for the PNC candidate and said the level of support received reflected confidence in the party's work and policies.
Concluding his message, Speaker Abdul Raheem said the party was encouraged by the outcome and remained committed to its long-term objectives under President Dr Muizzu's leadership. He stated that the PNC would continue strengthening its work and preparations with its sights set on 2028.
