First Lady Sajidha Mohamed attended the opening ceremony of the BML Raajje Junior Netball Championship 2026, a tournament aimed at promoting youth participation and development in netball.
The ceremony was held at the indoor hall of the Malé Social Centre, where the First Lady officially inaugurated the championship by signing the tournament's official ball. She also met and greeted players and officials participating in the opening match.
The event was attended by officials from the Netball Association of Maldives, Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness Abdulla Rafiu, and Bank of Maldives Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef.
The championship opened with a match between Huravee School and Jamaaluddin School. Huravee School secured a commanding 23-3 victory after four seven-minute quarters.
Following the match, the First Lady presented the Queen of the Match award to the standout player.
Organised by the Netball Association of Maldives, the championship serves as a platform to nurture young athletes and strengthen the development of netball across the country.
Formerly known as the Inter-School Netball Tournament, the competition is now being held under the BML Raajje Junior Netball Championship banner. This year's edition features 25 teams competing across two age categories, with 14 teams in the under-15 division and 11 teams in the under-17 division.
