The Ministry of Finance has appointed Asma Shafeeu as its first Reform Commissioner, a newly created position aimed at strengthening the nation's financial governance.

Asma, who concluded her tenure as Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) in October, brings extensive experience to the role. Her career at MIRA spanned since 2010, where she played a key role in taxation management.

In her new capacity as Reform Commissioner, Asma will head the recently established Reform Office, reporting directly to the Minister of Finance, with a particular focus on strengthening state financial affairs, optimising expenditure, and enhancing revenue generation.

The Reform Office forms part of the government's broader initiative to strengthen fiscal management and implement comprehensive financial reforms. Under Asma’s leadership, the office will work towards developing sustainable financial strategies and improving the efficiency of government financial systems.
