President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the Government is working to introduce key changes to parking regulations as part of efforts to improve traffic flow and make roads more accessible.

Speaking during the second episode of the Nation Chat podcast on Thursday night, the President said resolving parking issues remains one of the Government's priorities.

He said the proposed changes include introducing no-parking zones at road junctions, revising parking arrangements on narrow streets and preventing vehicles from being parked in front of residential homes.

The President noted that implementing road markings and designating no-parking areas fall under the responsibility of the Malé City Council. However, he said the council has not been fully cooperative in carrying out the necessary changes.

Despite this, President Dr Muizzu said the Government will continue to work with the council to implement the measures and will explore alternative options if needed.

He also revealed that the Government is considering the introduction of a paid parking system as part of a wider strategy to address parking and traffic challenges in Malé City.
