State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) unveiled the STELCO Research Foundation (SRF) on December 18, 2024, featuring an underwater drone project as one of its key initiatives.

The Foundation's primary objectives include fostering STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education for children and inspiring future innovators in the Maldives.

At the inauguration ceremony, STELCO’s Managing Director, Hussain Fahmy, highlighted the company’s diverse and skilled workforce, emphasising that the SRF would enable STELCO to leverage its resources for nation-building efforts.

As part of the SRF, STELCO introduced its latest project, the Unmanned Submersible Vehicle (USV). This state-of-the-art underwater drone is designed to explore and monitor inaccessible underwater areas, significantly enhancing ocean data collection capabilities.

The USV will also play a vital role in supporting environmental protection efforts, particularly in the preservation of the Maldives’ unique marine ecosystem.

Managing Director Fahmy also announced on X that STELCO is welcoming young talents, educated professionals, and innovators with fresh ideas and a drive for progress to collaborate with them in research initiatives.
