Chief Government Spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef has announced that the Government has completed the administrative work required to reduce the number of politically appointed employees and has begun implementing the changes.
Speaking on Presser with the Spox on Saturday, Shareef said the performance evaluation of political appointees has been completed as part of the Government's efforts to streamline the Administration.
He said the assessment was conducted to ensure that only positions necessary for the effective functioning of the Government are retained.
Shareef's remarks follow recent comments by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who said the administrative process to reduce the size of the Government is nearing completion and that details of the changes will be announced.
The President previously stated that the number of ministries has already been reduced by five and that the required number of political appointees for each ministry has been determined.
He also said the reduction exercise will be carried out based on performance, with evaluations focusing on punctuality, work ethic and responsibility.
The Government has consistently reiterated that the initiative is intended to improve administrative efficiency while reducing the number of political appointments.
