National airline Maldivian will operate more than 2,000 domestic flights during the upcoming school holidays, the airline has announced.

Speaking to MMTV, Maldivian said the planned operations represent a 17 per cent increase over its regular scheduled services.

The airline estimates it will carry more than 110,000 passengers during the school holiday period, including over 91,700 passengers on scheduled flights and more than 18,200 passengers on additional services.

One in every six flights operated during the school holidays will be an additional service introduced to meet increased travel demand.

During the holiday period, Maldivian will operate domestic flights to 18 destinations: Baa Dharavandhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Faresmaathodaa, Shaviyani Funadhoo, Fuvahmulah City, Seenu Gan, Haa Dhaalu Hanimaadhoo, Haa Alifu Hoarafushi, Raa Ifuru, Gaafu Dhaalu Kaadedhdhoo, Laamu Kadhdhoo, Gaafu Alifu Kooddoo, Kulhudhuffushi City, Noonu Maafaru, Gaafu Dhaalu Maavarulu, Lhaviyani Madivaru, Malé City, Meemu Muli, and Thaa Thimarafushi.

Maldivian also noted that it operated more than 1,200 flights during the recent Eid holidays, carrying over 65,000 passengers.
