The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun preparations for asphalt paving on the northern section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, with sub-base works on Segments 4 and 5 scheduled to commence tomorrow ahead of paving works next week.

MTCC said asphalt paving machinery has already been mobilised to the site. The aggregate base course will be laid following the completion of sub-base works, with asphalt paving expected to begin next week.

Meanwhile, sheet pile installation works are continuing and remain on track for completion by early next week. Sidewalk construction and the installation of kerbstones within the parking zone are also progressing, while final quay wall capping concrete works are scheduled to begin next week.

The redevelopment project covers the stretch between the Local Market area and the Henveiru Ferry Terminal and is being carried out in phases. Several sections have already been completed, while construction continues on the remaining areas.

MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudee previously said the project is expected to be completed and opened to the public in July. Once completed, the upgraded road is expected to improve traffic flow and enhance transport services in the area.
