The Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into allegations of document forgery involving the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
Based on information received, the case is being pursued proactively by the police.
In a statement to the media, police confirmed they are examining claims that land was allocated to individuals who were not eligible under the company’s Binveriya scheme. The matter is being treated as an alleged case of forged documentation.
To facilitate the investigation, the Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB) has temporarily suspended all members of HDC’s Board of Directors, including Managing Director Fazul Rasheed, with the exception of the Chairman Ahmed Nasif.
Commenting on the situation, Heena Waleed, chief spokesperson for the President’s Office, reassured the public that individuals who rightfully acquired land through the landlord scheme would not lose their entitlements.
Additionally, HDC’s auditor has directed the company to halt all financial transactions temporarily, except for emergency expenses, to ensure transparency during the inquiry.
The police investigation is ongoing, with further updates expected as the case progresses.
