President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has submitted the names of two nominees to Parliament for appointment as the next Commissioner General of Taxation at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).

The vacancy arose following the resignation of Hassan Zareer, who stepped down after being appointed Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises. In a letter sent to Parliament, the President nominated Mohamed Haleem Abdulla and Fathimath Ameeza for the position.

Haleem holds a Master's degree in Professional Accountancy from the University of London and currently serves as President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives (CA Maldives), with extensive experience in the accounting profession.

Ameeza holds a Master's degree in Accounting from Monash University, Australia, and is currently serving as Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation at MIRA.

The nominations have been referred to Parliament's Economic Committee, which will conduct interviews with both candidates before submitting its recommendation to the full Parliament for a final vote.
