The Maldives Immigration has advised the public not to submit passport photographs that have been edited using artificial intelligence (AI) or similar tools, stating that such images do not meet the required passport photo standards.

In a post shared on X, Immigration urged passport applicants to refrain from submitting AI-generated or AI-edited photographs. The authority said such images do not comply with the standards required for passport photographs.

Immigration further stated that a passport serves as an official identity document, and urged all applicants to ensure that photographs submitted with passport applications meet the photo requirements specified by the authority.

The authority has also been continuously sharing information on passport photo requirements through its social media platforms. In addition, Immigration has been conducting awareness sessions to familiarise the public with the required standards and encourage applicants to submit photographs that comply with the guidelines.

The Maldives passport has been ranked as South Asia’s most powerful travel document for the seventh consecutive year, climbing one place in the latest Henley Passport Index.
