Dhidhdhoo MP Abdul Latheef Mohamed has said President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is carrying out the work of two administrations in a single presidential term due to the way the previous MDP Government operated.

Speaking on MMTV’s Bodu Khabaru programme, Latheef said President Dr Muizzu assumed office at a time when the state was in a fragile financial position. He said institutions such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund had warned of the risk of the state facing bankruptcy.

MP Latheef said the President’s priority was to ensure that essential services linked to people’s daily lives continued without interruption. This included ensuring access to basic goods and food items at affordable prices, while maintaining health, education, and other essential services.

He said the President then prioritised development projects. However, MP Latheef said many projects started under the previous MDP Government had remained incomplete for nearly a year before the current Administration assumed office. He said President Dr Muizzu decided to continue those projects without halting them.

MP Latheef said the President is now carrying out projects left incomplete by the former Government while also fulfilling pledges made during the presidential election.

He also said several agreements made by the previous Government were not properly structured, creating difficulties for the current Administration in continuing inherited projects. MP Latheef added that the Administration also faced challenges stemming from the conflict in the Middle East, including rising prices and difficulties obtaining essential goods.

Despite these challenges, MP Latheef said the Government is working to resolve obstacles and carry out projects for the benefit of the public.

MP Latheef also noted that several projects launched by the Government are already being completed. Referring to his own constituency, he said a record number of projects have been launched across the constituency's islands, adding that he has no doubt the projects will be completed within the next two years.
