The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), in collaboration with the Maldives Police Service, has launched a criminal investigation into the Binveriya and Gedhoruveriya housing schemes.

This action, initiated recently after an order from Prosecutor General Uz Abbas Shareef, aims to examine the legitimacy of land and flat allocations and uncover any misconduct.

The Prosecutor General’s Office invoked Article 223(f) of the Constitution to mandate the investigation, directing authorities to ensure proper procedures were followed in identifying beneficiaries.

The PG also stated that the order was issued in response to public concerns, emphasising the importance of resolving these issues through a comprehensive and swift inquiry.

The ACC assured that the investigation is a top priority, aiming to address grievances and maintain transparency in the housing allocation process.
